Sunshine now, torrential rains by New Year’s Day

The sunrise over the Mississippi Sound’s eastern horizon will be a distant memory by the time 2017 begins. A series of strong storms will push toward Mississippi. They get here shortly after New Year’s Eve festivities end. And they’ll dump large amounts of rain on South Mississippi. Forecasters expect three to five inches of rain over the area between early Sunday morning and Tuesday. There’s a chance higher amounts will be possible.
